Korea Maritime & Ocean University: Received ship monitoring system and electronic chart display system from GMT Co., Ltd.
Our university received the ship monitoring system (VMS) and electronic chart display system (ECDIS) devices from GMT Co. , Ltd. ( CEO Byeong -wook Moon ) . GMT is a company that focuses on developing maritime control systems , digital communications and navigation systems .
The donation ceremony held at the university headquarters on the 9th was attended by major officials from both institutions, including President Doe Do-hee and CEO Moon Byung-wook .
The ship monitoring system delivered this time is a device that collects AIS and V-PASS data of ships near the installation site and provides traffic analysis . AIS refers to a device that informs the position , speed , and direction of a vessel , and V-PASS refers to a wireless device for prompt response in the event of a marine accident and automation of reporting on entry and exit of fishing vessels .
In the case of the electronic chart display system, it is a comprehensive navigation system that includes essential functions such as the display of various information related to the navigation of a vessel, route planning , monitoring , and voyage records .
The received system devices will be installed in the school’s maritime police policy and R&D center after consultation .
The donation of devices that play a major role in ship navigation is expected to lead to overall university development, including strengthening the competitiveness of Korea Maritime University students .
