Korea University: Generous Donation of 100 Million Won from Current Student Facilitates Construction of Humanities Building

Park Jun-bae (’18, Department of Spanish Language and Literature) generously contributed 100 million won to support the construction of a Humanities Building at Korea University. It was the first time that a currently enrolled student at the university has donated more than 100 million won.

On March 5 (Tue) 4 p.m., the university hosted a small ceremony at the office of President to commemorate the student’s donation.

Park Jun-bae is in his senior year in the Department of Spanish Language and Literature. He started to learn about investments when he served in the army, and after being discharged, Park joined a student club, named ‘Invest in Value Society.’ The 100 million won he donated came out of profits from the investments he made based on what he learned from the student club as well as the salary he received from work while studying at the university at the same time.

At the donation ceremony, Park said, “I saw myself growing up a lot at Korea University. So, I’ve always wanted to do something meaningful as an enrolled student before graduating.” He added, “As a student in the College of Liberal Arts, I was happy with the news that a Humanities Building is going to be built, and I wanted to be of help. I wish that current students and junior students make their dreams come true at the Humanities Building.”

In reply to Park’s remarks, President Kim said, “We truly thank Park Jun-bae for his support for current students as well as junior students.” President Kim added, “ I am serving as a President and, at the same time, a staff member here in Korea University, and it is very emotional to receive a donation from someone who’s still a student at the university. We will do our best to support the current students and those who will enter the university in the future by providing pleasant environments where they can focus on their study and by helping them grow as someone with skills and talent. 15.
