Korea University: ICASSP 2024 Welcomes Distinguished University Professor Lee Seong-whan as Keynote Speaker

Distinguished University Professor Lee Seong-whan from the Department of Artificial Intelligence has been invited as a keynote speaker to the 49th International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP 2024), which will be held at the COEX Convention Center from April 14 to April 19.

ICASSP 2024 is the world’s largest and most prestigious international academic event in the fields of acoustics, speech, and signal processing, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). This year’s ICASSP 2024 is expected to be attended by over 4,000 researchers from around the world, including leading global companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, Samsung Electronics, and Hyundai Motor Company.

Professor Lee’s keynote speech, titled “Brain-To-Speech: Neural Speech Synthesis from Brain Signals,” goes beyond simple signal processing technology to explore various aspects of artificial-intelligence-based natural speech synthesis and next-generation brain-to-brain communication technology. His lecture covers topics such as ▲ brain-computer interface technology for communication, ▲ text-to-speech conversion technology, ▲ speech-to-speech conversion technology, ▲ brain-to-speech classification technology, and ▲ brain-to-speech synthesis technology, addressing diverse inputs in different scenarios.

In addition, focusing on the development status of brain-to-brain communication technology, Professor Lee will highlight the potential of next-generation communication technology to innovate existing communication paradigms based on voice and text, especially in assisting communication for people with disabilities.

Other than Professor Lee, the keynote speakers selected for ICASSP 2024 include Professor Jitendra Malik from the University of California, Berkeley, Professor Bhaskar Rao from the University of California, San Diego, and Dr. Johan Schalkwyk from Google.
