Korea University Successfully Hosts Inaugural KU Security Conference (KUSCON 2024)
The Graduate School of Information Security successfully concluded the first KU Security Conference (KUSCON 2024) held at the Chey Jong-hyun Hall in the SK Future Hall on Friday, May 10th.
KUSCON is an academic conference organized by the Graduate School of Information Security together with representative educational and research organizations involved in Korea University’s information security, such as the Center for Information Security Technologies, School of Smart Security, and Department of Cyber Defense. This year marks the inaugural event. The event was attended by the host Kwon Hun-yeong, the Dean of the Graduate School of Information Security, along with professors, students, and officials from the public and private sectors involved in cybersecurity within and outside the university.
KUSCON 2024 consisted of a total of seven events, including the KU Cyber Defense Workshop, the KU Security Technology Seminar, the Graduate School of Information Security Technology Presentation, the Graduate School of Information Security Outstanding Paper Presentation, the KU Security Academic Award Ceremony, the KU Security Innovation 2030 Vision Declaration Ceremony, and the KU Security Joint Appreciation Event.
The first session of the conference was the KU Cyber Defense Workshop 2024, where students and graduates of the Department of Cyber Defense, the Ministry of National Defense, and military personnel participated in a closed-door event, where excellent papers and hacking demonstrations were presented. The second session was the KU Security Technology Seminar, which introduced technologies and promoted internships at domestic IT companies and security companies, such as LG Electronics, Lotte Innovate, TOSS Securities, and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Consulting. The third session was the Graduate School of Information Security Technology Presentation, which introduced excellent patented technologies and open-source technologies held by the Graduate School of Information Security at Korea University.
The fourth session of the conference was the Graduate School of Information Security Outstanding Paper Presentation, which showcased outstanding cybersecurity papers that were selected through the internal selection process of the Graduate School of Information Security. Subsequently, in the fifth session, the KU Security Academic Award Ceremony, awards were given to the outstanding papers, technologies, and posters selected directly by the event attendees from the technologies, papers, and posters presented in the technology presentation, the outstanding paper presentation, and the exhibition event.
As the sixth session, the KU Security Innovation 2030 Vision Declaration Ceremony was held to announce the Graduate School of Information Security’s top 100 innovation tasks and to share the innovation achievements to date. The ceremony also featured the designation of KU Security partner companies and the introduction of external innovation committee members for KU Security. PwC Consulting (CEO Moon Hongki) was appointed the first KU Security partner company. The seventh and final session was an appreciation event jointly prepared by students from the Graduate School of Information Security, Department of Information Security in the Graduate School, School of Smart Security, and Department of Cyber Defense.
Kwon Hun-yeong, the Dean of the Graduate School of Information Security who hosted the event, said, “This event is significant because it showcases the capabilities and achievements of Korea University’s Graduate School of Information Security, which celebrated its 24th anniversary this year, as a comprehensive cybersecurity education and research institution. It also demonstrates our commitment to innovation for continued growth in the future. We plan to hold KUSCON annually and complete the innovations outlined in our 2030 plan, taking a leap forward to become a global leading KU Security.”
