Korea University: Tapping into a pool of strategically talented scientists to solve difficulties in the energy and environment industry
A center for nurturing talent in energy, environment and climate technology was launched.
The Ministry of Science and ICT held a signboard-hanging ceremony at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) at 2:00 pm on October 13, a full-fledged first step towards producing strategic talent in science to solve difficult problems in the energy and environment industry.
The Energy and Environment Climate Technology Talent Development Center project is a project in which the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea invest money in universities with the goal of cultivating more than 120 climate technology experts over three years. Korea University achieved the noteworthy feat of being selected for the project in May and received a total of 4.4 billion won to foster scientific talent for 2 years and 9 months.
The Energy and Environment Climate Technology Talent Development Center has set its business vision to the cultivation of strategic talent towards solving difficult problems in the energy and environment industry and establishing a center for fostering convergence-specialized climate technology spec that internalizes energy and environmental policies. To achieve this, a consortium of 3 universities (Korea University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Jeonbuk National University) formed to operate 5 team projects,, identify and carry out policy education and research topics, and conduct domestic and overseas training programs.
Center Director Lee Hae-seok (KU-KIST Green School, Department of Integrative Energy Engineering) announced at the signboard hanging ceremony both the vision of the Energy and Environment Climate Technology Talent Development Center and its curriculum, and revealed his aspiration to produce 60 climate technology specialists through energy/environment total solution education and practice.
