Korea University Tops Regular Admissions Among Private Universities for 3rd Consecutive Year
The results of the analysis based on this data show that the threshold of the top 70% of successful applicants for regular admission in the humanities departments for the 2024 school year (based on general admission, percentile average of Korean/mathematics/elective subjects, average of various recruitment units, and final registration numbers) was 96.6 for Seoul National University (a public university), 94.2 for Korea University and, 91.3 for Yonsei University. For natural sciences (excluding medicine and pharmacy), Seoul National University was 96.2, Korea University was 95.0, and Yonsei University was 93.8. In the case of the medical field, the three universities achieved the same percentile of 99.0.
This is consistent with the regular admissions results for the 2022 and 2023 school years. The thresholds at the three universities for the 2022 academic year in the humanities and natural sciences departments (excluding medicine and pharmacology) were in that same order: Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University. However, Korea University’s threshold score for the 2023 academic year in the field of natural sciences (excluding medicine and pharmacy) was 94.9, the highest among domestic universities.
Korea University’s high level of performance in regular admissions can be attributed to its selection process, which is designed to encourage applications from top talent, and the establishment and expansion of departments that guarantee employment in cutting-edge fields. As a result, many high calibre talents applied to Korea University, leading to positive changes in the perception of and preference for the university.
