Korea University’s ‘Big Choi’ Choi Hee-seop Throws Support Behind Junior Baseball Players
Choi Hee-seop, the hitting coach for the KIA Tigers, has generously donated 100 million won to be used for his junior baseball players.
고려대는 Korea University held the “Alumni Choi Hee-seop Sports Committee Baseball Team Development Fund Donation Agreement Ceremony” on February 19th (Monday). The donation ceremony was attended by alumni Choi Hee-seop, President Kim Dong-one, and Kim Chul-woo, the chairman of the Sports Committee, among others.
The donated funds are intended to be used for the benefit of the Korea University baseball team, in accordance with the wishes of alumni Choi Hee-seop.
Additionally, Coach Choi Hee-seop has previously demonstrated his commitment to supporting his juniors by donating $250,000 (approximately 300 million won), a portion of his signing bonus when he entered US Major League Baseball in 1999, as a scholarship fund for Korea University through an international foundation.
At the donation agreement ceremony, Choi Hee-seop stated, “I have always harbored gratitude towards my alma mater, knowing that it was the support of my university that enabled me to enter Major League Baseball in the United States. As a senior who has previously played baseball, I hope that this donation will help my juniors train and study in a better environment and achieve their dreams. Visiting my alma mater after a long time brings me joy, and I am delighted to be able to contribute to my juniors.”
President Kim Dong-one of Korea University expressed his gratitude by saying, “We are sincerely thankful to alumni Choi Hee-seop for his support of the juniors. We will use this invaluable donation to cultivate leading talent in the world of athletics.”
