Korea University’s ESG Forum for Future Generations Triumphs in Success

The Korea University Social Service Organization, together with the Korean ESG Association and the Korean NGO Association, successfully concluded the “ESG and Future Generations Forum” on February 15th (Thursday) at the CCL in Central Plaza.

The event commenced with an opening address by Oh Soo-gil, the President of the Korean Association of NGO Studies. President Oh expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Korea University affiliates, highlighting his special gratitude towards them. Subsequently, Oh Ji-hye, the Director of the Impact Strategy Center of the Korea University Social Service Organization, delivered a welcome speech stating, “Environmental issues are problems that need to be solved together with future generations. I believe this forum is a result of improved awareness and an important place to think about how we should move forward.”

 

The event comprised two sessions. The first session, titled “Efforts and Voices of Youth for Sustainable Development,” was set up as a discussion panel. Kang Dong-ryul, the Secretary-General of SDSN Korea, moderated the session, with panelists including Han Hyeong-gyu, a researcher from MYSC; Kim Min-ju, the president of LAICOS; Kwak Jae-heon, the chairman of the ESG Youth Forum; and Jung Yu-jeong, a researcher from eGIS/RS Lab.

The first session discussed what the government, universities, and youths need to do to strengthen ESG in South Korea. Han Hyeong-kyu underscored the need for active collaboration between companies to overcome operational limitations. Kim Min-ju pointed out the need for individuals to consciously integrate ESG into their lives.

The second session, titled “ESG Trends and Advanced Strategies,” was moderated by Song Chang-seok, the Director of the Corporate Autonomy Decentralization Institute. The panel included Lim Jung-keun, the Vice President of the Korean ESG Association; Oh Chang-hwan, the President of the Korean Association for Sustainable Development; Park Suk-hyun, the Director of the Sustainable Systems Research Institute; Kang Chung-ho, the Director of ESG Korea Gyeonggi Network; Ko Jeong-woo, a team leader from Yukwaehan Banran (Pleasant Rebellion); and Oh Ji-hye, the Director of the Impact Strategy Center at KUIS.

사Discussions in the second session spanned a wide range of topics related to the social system, with Park Suk-hyun calling for the market institutionalization of ESG and mentioning the need for depoliticization. Other panelists argued the need for consensus among major political parties.

Concluding the forum, which lasted approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes, Jo Jun-ho, CEO of ESG Korea, remarked, “I am thrilled that the older generations could offer even the slightest help in this arena to address the concerns of future generations.”
