Korea University’s Human-Inspired AI Research Showcases Cutting-Edge Technologies at 2024 TechDay
Korea University’s Human-Inspired AI (HIAI) Research hosted its 2024 TechDay on Monday, July 15, at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul.
Co-hosted by HIAI Research and the LINC 3.0 Project Group and organized by the Institute of Next Generation AI, the event centered around the theme “LLM/sLM for Business: Enhancing Productivity and Innovation.” It attracted the participation of over 50 companies and representatives from various AI startups.
The first session featured a keynote speech by Director of HIAI Research Lim Hee-suk, titled “LLM Business – Productivity and Innovation.” He discussed various strategies for enhancing business productivity and fostering innovation through the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Small Language Models (sLMs). As an sLM case study, he introduced the Gureum3 technology developed by HIAI Research, showcasing its generative capabilities.
Following the keynote address, a networking session provided participants with the opportunity to share opinions and exchange insights. Industry-University Cooperation Professor Choi Byeong-ho presented collaboration programs undertaken by HIAI Research, and facilitated discussions about potential partnerships and ways to integrate AI technologies into business.
During the event, HIAI Research showcased not only South Korea’s leading natural language processing technology but also its proprietary AI technologies, including multimodal machine learning, knowledge representation and acquisition, and reasoning tools that surpass human sensory capabilities.
Director Lim emphasized, “For companies that cannot independently develop ultra-large LLMs, it is essential to commercialize a domain-specific sLM that excels in the Korean language by utilizing domain transfer and lightweight technologies, in order to ensure their growth.” He added, “I hope many attendees discoverr valuable information and gain opportunities for collaboration through this event.”
