Kotak Mahindra Bank Associates with Pragati Pratishthan to Support Special Education for Hearing Impaired Children of Tribal Communities
Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari, inaugurates the renovated Nilesh Laxman Murdeshwar School for the hearing impaired in Jawhar and unveils the statue of the founder of the organisation Late Shri Vasantrao Patwardhan at the school premises
Mumbai : Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited (“KMBL” / “Kotak”) announced its CSR association with Pragati Pratishthan to support special education of hearing impaired children of tribal communities. Under KMBL’s CSR Project on Education & Livelihood, it has CSR funded Pragati Pratishthan to renovate the Nilesh Laxman Murdeshwar School for the hearing impaired located at Jawhar, Palghar District, Maharashtra. On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the organisation, Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari inaugurated the renovated Nilesh Laxman Murdeshwar School and unveiled the statue of the founder of the organisation Late Shri Vasantrao Patwardhan on 10th November, 2022 at the school premises. The inauguration event was attended by Hon’ble Cabinet minister for PWD, Food, and Civil supplies and Guardian Minister, Thane District, State Government of Maharashtra, Mr. Ravindra Chavan, Shri. Govind Bodake, District Collector, Dist, Palghar, Shri. Balasaheb Patil, District Superintendent of Police, Hon’ble MLA, Maharashtra State, Shir Shrinivas Wanga, Shri Purshottam Agavan, President, Pragati Pratishthan, Ms. Sunandatai Patwardhan, Pragati Pratishthan, and Kotak Mahindra Bank employees – Mr. Shenoj Thomas, Mr. Parikshit Masram and Mr. Gajendra Dixit.
Nilesh Laxman Murdeshwar School for the hearing impaired was started in 1985, with the vision that hearing-impaired children from tribal communities should also get education and succeed in life like any other children. The residential school nurtures independence and self-confidence in students. Equipped with skilled teachers, it provides digital hearing aids to bring about improvements in speech and an overall improvement in language and oratory skill and also provides medical guidance and healthcare facilities.
Rohit Rao, Joint President & Group Chief CSR Officer, Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited said, “India’s progress will be incomplete without developing its rural areas like Jawhar in Maharashtra, which has a large population of hearing impaired from scheduled tribes and scheduled class who continue to struggle for basic necessities like education. Kotak Mahindra Bank has associated with Pragati Pratishthan with a shared vision to support special education for hearing impaired children of tribal communities and has CSR funded the renovation of Nilesh Laxman Murdeshwar School for the hearing impaired located at Jawhar, which will benefit over 300 students.”
