Hyderabad: KSB one of the world’s leading manufacturers of pumps and industrial valves has reiterated its support towards government’s efforts in reducing sulphur content in the flue gas emission by 30-35 per cent from the 2005 level by 2030. This is agreed at COP 21 Summit (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in Paris. As part of the commitment, KSB has localized slurry recirculation pumps required for Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) applications. The company has recently bagged total order worth Rs. 100 crores for the supply of slurry recirculation pumps in FGD plants to be installed across ten National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) sites in India. FGD systems will be installed in power plants having a total generation capacity of 166 GW in the coming years.
Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) process is aimed at reducing the SO2 (Sulphur dioxide) emission in the flue/stack gases from thermal power plants into the atmosphere. FGD plants are comparatively new to India and KSB Limited has continued its tradition of indigenizing highly specialized products by adding the Slurry Recirculation Pumps required for FGD plants in its portfolio for local manufacturing. Gigantic in size, these pumps handle the critical slurry application in FGD plant and have a special lining for high wear life for more running hours. KSB has bagged several orders in these type of plants and has localized the special lining technology. With a combination of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), Motor and Gear Box in the test field, KSB has the flexibility to test the pumps in-house at the various operating conditions depending on customer requirements.
Commenting on the development Mr. Rajeev Jain, Regional Executive Officer, West Asia and Managing Director KSB Limited India, “Though the process is relatively new, the implementation of industrial pollution norms has been gaining momentum in India in the last few years. We have managed to bag orders for slurry recirculation pumps for a large number of power plants in a short span of time. We foresee a huge surge for slurry recirculation pumps for FGD systems in India up to 2022 considering the government’s support for stringent industrial emission norms. To meet the Indian market demand, we have developed the entire supply chain for these pumps locally. The scope includes supply of slurry recirculation pumps with drive units, performance testing and providing erection & commissioning support to customers”.
Globally KSB has been a supplier of German technology pumps for FGD applications since 1977 having more than 40 years of experience in serving products for FGD applications. The company has delivered more than 1400 slurry recirculation pumps (Size: DN ≥ 400) and more than 3000 process pumps to the secondary circuits across more than 260 FGD plants worldwide. KSB started manufacturing pumps in India from 1960 and has expanded its manufacturing base across six locations in the last 60 years. The pumps required for FGD applications are supplied from KSB’s latest world-class facility at Shirwal near Pune. KSB India with the know-how and technology from its parent company, KSB Germany uses high-quality material and optimized hydraulics which ensures the highest efficiency amongst all the competing products.
KSB has five fully equipped service centers set up in India to provide services to their customers, including renewal of the special lining which is provided for these pumps. These service centers are located at Chinchwad – Pune, Odhav – Ahmedabad, Noida, Chennai & Kolkata. The company also provides service support worldwide.
