KU Leuven steps up with registrations from academic year 2023-2024
The deadline for students to enroll at KU Leuven will be moved forward next academic year. This measure is in line with the launch of the Starters Days and the early official opening. Students can register until September 20, the day of the official opening. A flexible exception procedure will be introduced for students who are unable to register on time – such as students who want to change their study program after disappointing exam results.
More than 60,000 students enroll at KU Leuven every year. Nowadays, this is mainly done online. From next academic year, the registration deadline for both new students and re-enrollees will be brought forward and will coincide with the official opening of the academic year on Wednesday 20 September. Classes will start on Monday 25 September.
Vice Rector for Education Policy Tine Baelmans: “We want to actively involve students in their education right from the start of the academic year. The official registration, especially for students who are already studying at KU Leuven, is a small administrative act that is often forgotten. By bringing forward the registration deadline, we want to engage them in time so that the focus can be fully on the new academic year.”
For new students, enrolling at KU Leuven is of course a big step. “The early registration date is in line with the early opening of the academic year and the Starters Days . This decision underlines the importance of the Starters Days and the ambition to create a powerful teaching and learning environment,” said Baelmans.
A flexible exception procedure will be introduced for students who cannot register on time, for example because they change direction after disappointing exam results. This gives them enough time to make a well-considered choice about their further study career at the university.
