KU Leuven: Una Europa welcomes University College Dublin and Universitä Zurich

On Europe Day 2022, Una Europa announced that UCD and UZH will join KU Leuven and eight other partner institutions in the alliance of European research universities.

University College Dublin (UCD) is a research-oriented university that ranks in the top 1% of higher education institutions worldwide. University College Dublin has played an important role in Ireland, Europe and beyond since its foundation in 1854, producing numerous political, business and cultural leaders, the most famous example being the writer James Joyce.

The Universität Zürich (UZH) is the largest comprehensive university in Switzerland and one of the leading universities in the German-speaking region. In 1833, the Universität Zurich was the first university to be established by a democratic political system – “by the will of the people” is engraved in the main building to this day.

The new members join nine partner universities in Una Europa: Freie Universität Berlin, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, University of Edinburgh, Helsingin yliopisto/Helsingfors universitet, Uniwersytet Jagielloński w Krakowie, Leiden University, KU Leuven, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Université Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne. University College Dublin and Universität Zürich already had close ties with Una Europa’s partner universities: together they have already published more than 7000 publications in the last five years in collaboration with members of Una Europa.
