Kyushu University and University of Antwerp Launch Innovative Joint Degree Program
Kyushu University’s Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES) and the University of Antwerp’s Faculty of Science in Belgium will launch a new joint degree program for doctoral students. The program, called the “Kyushu University-University of Antwerp International Collaborative Program in Engineering Science,” will start in April 2025. On September 24, 2024, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) officially approved the establishment of this program.
This marks the first implementation of a joint degree program at IGSES. IGSES signed an agreement with the Faculty of Science at the University of Antwerp on July 22, 2024, to establish the joint degree program.
This joint degree program primarily aims to nurture academic researchers and highly specialized professionals with strong international perspectives. These individuals will be capable of proposing and conducting innovative research to develop materials and substances from a comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective. The program will address increasingly serious environmental and energy problems on a global scale, ultimately aiming to create a sustainable society.
Through this program, Kyushu University will strengthen international research collaboration with the University of Antwerp, deepen synergistic partnerships in the field of materials sciences, and commit to fostering the next generation of international leaders.
