La Trobe is offering more short courses as part of the government’s relief package to help people displaced by the economic impact of COVID-19 to start studying towards a new career

Reflecting La Trobe’s expertise as innovative science educators, our strong partnerships with the IT industry, and our recognised strengths in health and well-being – for which the University was recently ranked second in the world* – students will be able to study an Undergraduate Certificate in Information Technology, Health Sciences,  Science, or Food and Nutrition.

These certificates are in addition to our short Post Graduate level courses previously announced as part of the relief package.

The six-month undergraduate certificates are offered at heavily discounted rates and are aimed at students looking to begin studies leading towards a possible future professional career in IT, health or science.

La Trobe’s acting Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Nicolette Lee, said the courses provide students with a solid foundation that will provide a springboard to advancing careers or further studies in a new field.

“These online courses reflect the University’s strengths health, science, and computing.  They provide an opportunity for individuals affected by the economic impact of COVID-19 to gain transferable skills as well as critical professional knowledge,” Professor Lee said.

“Helping to support the Australian workforce’s career development is one of the greatest contributions La Trobe can make to post-COVID recovery.

“All of these discounted short courses lead to a certificate qualification upon completion, but also provide academic credit for those wishing to complete a degree at La Trobe.”

La Trobe is home to Australia’s largest School of Rural Health, is ranked first among all Victoria Universities for the number of health students enrolled, and is home to the Optus La Trobe Cyber Security Research Hub and Australia’s first Master of the Internet of Things.

The University was this year named second in the world for impact on advancing the United Nation’s strategic development goals for health and wellbeing.  The University also recently became a member of Australia’s ground-breaking Digital Health Collaborative Research Centre.
