La Trobe University: La Trobe supports NAIDOC call to action
La Trobe University supports the objectives of the Uluru Statement from the Heart. This includes creating a First Nations Voice to the Australian Parliament enshrined in the Constitution and the establishment of a Makarrata Commission for the purpose of treaty making and truth-telling.
During NAIDOC Week, we reaffirm our commitment to ‘closing the gap’ in Indigenous higher education and supporting the call to ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’.
La Trobe University is proud of its record of providing access to Indigenous students, supporting Indigenous staff, and working to benefit the Indigenous communities that surround our campuses.
All Australians can learn how to better embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of our national heritage during NAIDOC Week.
We should respect the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders equally with the culture and values of all Australians.
