Lancaster University: Lancaster University academic takes on role with NW social enterprise

A Lancaster University Management School academic has started a new role working with one of the region’s largest social enterprises to provide wider access to education.

Dr Radka Newton, Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Strategy, will assume a membership on the Workforce Development Advisory Board and Sub Board at The Growth Company.

The Growth Company provides individual and business support across the North West. It envisions a society where economic growth and prosperity are inclusive, sustainable and leave no person or community behind. The Growth Company delivers programmes ranging from technical and professional apprenticeships, language and numeracy programmes, to digital skills courses, enabling accessible education and restoring pride in learners’ own abilities.

Dr Newton, who is the Director of the Help to Grow Management Programme in LUMS, will be part of a board reviewing and directing their employment and skills services.

Dr Newton said: “This is an exciting appointment, and I am looking forward to contributing to the Growth Company’s commitment to provide inclusive support for communities, enabling individuals to reach their potential. I am confident that my experience with digital and blended learning will be useful for the company’s aspirations.”

She added: “In my role with Help to Grow, I have learnt that many companies are struggling to attract the right talent in our region, and I believe the Growth Company is well-placed to contribute to regional development, as well as changing lives of individuals not reached by more traditional education pathways.”
