Lancaster University: Lancaster University Library joins Research Libraries UK
Lancaster University’s Library joins a consortium of leading and influential research libraries.
Research Libraries UK (RLUK) stated purpose is to ‘shape the research library agenda and contribute to the wider knowledge economy through innovative projects and services that add value and impact to the process of research and researcher-training’.
It’s membership, now comprising 39 research libraries, collaborates on the strategy for research libraries across the UK and Ireland, helping them to better support research activity more broadly.
Andrew Barker, Director of Library Services & Learning Development said, “I am delighted that we have been invited to join RLUK as a member institution. At the heart of our transformational vision for our library is a commitment to rethink the role of the research library. This commitment aligns with RLUK’s own mission and strategy and as members of RLUK, we look forward to working in partnership with our new community to ensure that ambition is made real.”
“Joining RLUK will ensure that our library plays a leading role in shaping the future of research libraries and the policies and cultures that surround them. Through our membership we will centre Lancaster University at the heart of research-intensive university libraries, driving innovation and delivering new services and activities that make a positive impact on our research, education and engagement.”
Following a round of applications, Lancaster University Library joins RLUK at the same time as the University of East Anglia.
Masud Khokhar, Vice-chair of RLUK and Chair of the Membership Sub-Group said, “We were very impressed with the quality of the applications we received from libraries wishing to join RLUK. The two new member libraries were able to clearly demonstrate their commitment to the strategy, mission and values of RLUK. They will bring new insights to the challenges we face as a collective, and further invigorate the RLUK community through their innovative research support services and collection strengths.”
Dr Jessica Gardner, RLUK Chair, adds “We warmly welcome our newest members from the libraries of UEA and Lancaster University to the RLUK community. Together we are a network of libraries with strong shared commitment to work together to advance and innovate services and partnerships to enhance research and scholarship.”
