Lancaster University professor’s theatre company projects new production of Macbeth

A touring theatre company, co-founded by a Lancaster University professor, is all set to visit Lancaster later this month to deliver a daring retelling of Macbeth.

Professor Andrew Quick’s imitating the dog, presents an audacious and dazzling new retelling of William Shakespeare’s tale of ambition, betrayal, and downfall.

A Co-Director and Artistic Director of imitating the dog, Professor Quick, has been on research leave this term creating the adaptation of ‘Macbeth’ at Leeds Playhouse.

Fusing live action with striking video technology, for which imitating the dog are internationally renowned, the show is about to go on tour and is in Lancaster at The Dukes from 28th February until 4th March and then at The Lowry, in Manchester, the following week: 8th to 11th March.

“Macbeth is an extraordinary play,” says Professor Quick. “Shakespeare’s exploration of power, ambition, violence, and love seems so relevant to today. We’re excited to be bringing Macbeth to The Dukes. It is a unique take on the original play, a Macbeth as you have never seen before, but still with Shakespeare’s story at its heart.”

imitating the dog, which is Arts Council funded, brought their production of Dracula: The Untold Story to The Dukes in 2021, which went on to win the UK Theatre Award for Best Design, and the company are also well known in Lancaster for their striking projections at Lancaster Castle during Light Up Lancaster each November.
