Launch of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) Program at Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science & Research Hospital (SSCASRH), Sri Sri University, Cuttack, Odisha

Cuttack: Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital (SSCASRH), Sri Sri University (SSU), Cuttack, Odisha is launching a state-of-the-art Ayurvedic Medical College from the Academic Year 2021-22. The necessary permission in this regard has been received from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), the regulatory authority for Ayurvedic Medical Education under the aegis of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, to commence the 5.5 years Bachelor in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program with 60 seats, which will subsequently be expanded to 100 seats in the Academic Year 2022-23.
The admission for the first batch for AY: 2021-22 has begun. The eligibility for the BAMS program is NEET qualification with a score of more than 138, and admissions will be conducted through OJEE counselling. Scholarships will be provided to the selected candidates as per the policy laid down by Sri Sri University.
The objective of this program is to produce well-trained doctors, researchers, and academicians in traditional medicine to support nation-building and to serve the world, having the basic holistic values of life for a global non-violent society. This is in line with the National Education Policy 2020 which has laid emphasis on Indian Knowledge Systems and integrative system of medicine.
Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research Hospital, Sri Sri University (SSCASRH, SSU) is all set with well-equipped laboratories and museums for Anatomy, Physiology, and Samhita -Siddhant, smart classrooms, wi-fi enabled campus, hostel, and a vegetarian mess facility which is in line with the Ayurvedic style of living. Experienced faculty members have joined from different parts of India to make this a world-class College of Ayurveda under the mentorship of 15-year-old SSCASRH, Bengaluru.
A 100-bed hospital has been functional since 2nd January 2019 for which the foundation stone laying ceremony was done in the Divine presence of Poojya Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji and Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik ji with a vision to bring health care to every home. Sri Sri University is all set to herald a new era of holistic health and bring a lot of opportunity for medical tourism in the state of Odisha.
The Ayurveda college has already started Research activities on various diseases including psoriasis, piles, fatty liver, sickle cell anemia, and covid 19. The collaborators include Sri Sri Institute of Advanced Research, Bengaluru, University of Delhi, etc.
The hospital is currently functional with nine OPDs including Kaya Chikitsa (Medicine), Panchakarma (Detoxification), Shalya Tantra (Surgery), Shalakya Tantra (ENT and Ophthalmology), Kaumarbhritya (Pediatrics), Prasuti, and Stree Roga (Obstetrics and Gynecology), Swasthavritta (Preventive Medicine), Atyayika (Emergency Medicine), Physiotherapy. Along with this, the ancillary facilities which give us the advantage of being a complete health care unit include Ayurveda Pharmacy, Pathology, Osteopathy, 24×7 Emergency Clinic, Digital X-Ray, Ambulance, Neonatal Care with 100-bed IPD.
During the second wave of the Corona Pandemic, the Government of Odisha had converted the hospital into a 50- bedded covid care center (CCC) for three months, having a track record of 100% recoveries with zero casualties. The patients were given Ayurvedic medicines with standard modern care as per prescribed government covid protocol along with the practice of Yoga and chanting of mantras during the treatment.
The commitment of holistic health is amalgamated with modern and traditional medicines in the form of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Marma Therapy and the upcoming 150-bed Allopathy hospital along with Dialysis, Cancer Care Unit and complete Diagnostics unit (MRI, CT-scan, Doppler Test, Ultrasonography, EEG, ECG, Biofeedback, etc.) in the sprawling 188 acres campus.
Reinforcing the commitment to sustainability, Sri Sri University was ranked by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the band of 801-1000 based on all 17 SDGs on April 21, 2021. Sri Sri University has been ranked much higher under the following SDGs: (i) SDG 2: ‘Zero Hunger’ Band: 201-300 ; (ii) 2 SDG 15: ‘Life on Land’ Band: 201-300 ; (iii) SDG 14: ‘Life below Water’ Band: 301-400 ; (iv) SDG 12: ‘Responsible Consumption & Production’ Band: 301-400.
Sri Sri University has been ranked 1st in Odisha, 6th in India, and 248th in the world as per UI Green Metric World University Rankings 2021 which is a quantum jump from 2020 and 2019 rankings.

With just a barren hillock a decade ago, the University transformed itself into a lush green campus having more than 1 Lakh trees with 40 acres of farmland, Naxatra Vanam, herbal garden, and 74 varieties of birds.
