Launch of the national survey on the “Perception of the Impacts of COVID-19 in the Cultural and Creative Sectors in Brazil”
Through a collective effort between researchers, civil society, and partner institutions, the research launched on 10 June 2020, has the objective of assessing the impacts of COVID-19 on the production and distribution chains of the cultural and creative sectors in Brazil.
Together, these sectors produce over R$ 171.5 billion (reais) per year, equivalent to 2.61% of all the national wealth, employing 837.2 thousand professionals. Before the pandemic, it was predicted that the cultural and creative sectors would generate R$ 43.7 billion for the Brazilian GDP by 2021. Hardly hit by this unprecedented crisis, practitioners, entrepreneurs, artists and workers in these sectors will be the last economic group to return to their activities.
Understanding the need to confirm and complement scenarios already captured by other surveys, the intention is to understand in depth the contexts in state and municipal across the country and to offer information to public managers in real-time. It also intends to measure the short and medium-term impacts of the pandemic on culture in Brazil, supporting the formulation of cultural policies that can address these identified impacts.
The study intends to collect as much information as possible. Thus a questionnaire was created. We want to invite artists, technicians, workers, entrepreneurs, public and private managers, and members of traditional groups to answer to it. Please, participate by clicking here
The study is carried by a technical team comprised of researchers, public and private managers, who will produce bulletins with partial results and a final report. The ICCS portal (http://iccscovid19.com.br/) shows the survey results and news information on actions taken to face the effects of the pandemic in the cultural and creative sectors in Brazil and the world.
