Law fest held at AMU Malappuram Centre
ALIGARH : The team of Asjad Alam and Yash Jain won the first prize in the legal quiz competition held as part of the law festival, “Lex Justicia 2K23”, organized by the Law Society, Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre, Kerala.
The second prize went to the team of Mohd Zulqarnain and Shayaque Zafar, while the team of Arshad Khan and Shadan Ali Farooque got the third prize.
Mr. Ghulam Ashraf Touquir, Secretary, Quiz Club and Mr. Apoorva Chandra, Joint Secretary were the event incharge.
Similarly, in the event, “Client Counseling Competition”, the team of Mohd Faiz and Pratyaksh Moitra was judged first, while the team of Arshad Jilani and Shadan Ali Farooque was declared second and the team of Mohd. Asif and Saeed Masroor was placed third.
Arfeen Masood, Joint Secretary, Debate Club and Muskan Khan, Joint Secretary were the event incharge.
The objective of the Client Counselling Competition, titled, “Offences against Women”, was to promote greater knowledge and interest among law students in the preventative law and counseling. It also sought to develop interviewing, planning and analytical skills in students to ably manage the lawyer-client relationship. Twenty teams, consisting of two members each, participated in the event.
The Youth Parliament demonstrated the presentation of the Women Reservation Bill 2023, with Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik in chair as speaker and Mr Shamim Akhtar as the Deputy Speaker.
Asjad Alam proposed the 108th Amendment Bill providing new framework for the rights of the women, while an active Opposition critically examined various provisions of the Amendment Bill and offered a comprehensive critique of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023.
Ms. Fathima S. hosted the event and a panel of judges, including Dr. Azmat Ali, Dr. Raghul V. Rajan, Dr. Imran Ahmed and Dr. Bilal Ahmed Sheikh judged the performance of the participans.
In the “Letter to Chief Justice” segment, 29 participants showcased their capabilities by addressing various legal issues. The competition provided a platform for aspiring lawyers to express their thoughts on pressing matters within the legal field. The students were given 45 minutes to draft their letters.
Nayela Raies, Secretary, Legal Writing Club and Zoya Khan Joint Secretary were the incharge of this segment.
Earlier, during the inaugural session, Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik, Director Incharge, AMU Malappuram Centre and Coordinator, Department of Law, said Law Society has been playing an important role in providing the young students appropriate training to become a good lawyer, judge and academics.
Mr. Mohd. Ahazam Khan, Assistant Registrar, who presided over the inaugural session, highlighted the importance of the practical skills and urged the law students to make case studies and old judgments to gain practical knowledge.
Mr. Azam Khan, Vice President, Law Society introduced the schedule of the events under the Law Fest including Legal Quiz, Youth Parliament, Letter to the Chief Justice, PIL Drafting, and Client Counselling.
Dr. Deeba Khanam and Dr. Shally Victor, Conveners, Law Society appreciated the efforts of the members of the Law Society in organizing the Lex Justicia. She said that the objective of the Law Society is to help law students in understanding, upholding and promoting the principles of Justice and the Rule of Law.
