Lecture held on World Population Day
ALIGARH : The Centre for Continuing and Adult Education and Extension (CCAEE), Aligarh Muslim University organized a lecture by Dr Ali Jafer Abedi, University Health Officer, marking the World Population Day.
Dr Abedi said that over the past three decades, societies around the world have made remarkable progress in improving population data gathering, analysis, and its use, and new population figures, disaggregated by age, ethnicity, gender, and other factors, now reflect the diversity of our societies more accurately.
He said that these advancements have significantly enhanced the delivery of health care globally, leading to substantial improvements in sexual and reproductive health and the ability to exercise rights and choices.
He stressed that the World Population Day 2024 is a moment to ask who is still going uncounted and why, and what this costs an individual, societies, and our global efforts to leave no one behind.
“To realize the rights and choices of those on the margins of our societies, we must count them – because everyone counts. When data and other systems work for those on the margins, they work for everyone. This is how we accelerate progress for all,” added Dr Abedi.
Extending a vote of thanks, Dr Shamim Akhtar, Director, CCAEE, urged the learners and other stakeholders to create awareness in their surroundings to check the population growth.
