Lecture on ‘Basics of Intellectual Property Rights’
Aligarh : Mr Sameer Kumar Swarup (Deputy Controller General, Patent and Design, Indian Patent Office, New Delhi) explained the many risks of not understanding Intellectual Property (IP) protections and how IP rights provide protection for creations and inventions, to enable creators and inventors to earn recognition and financial benefit from their work.
He was delivering a special online lecture on ‘Basics of Intellectual Property Rights’ of the Intellectual Property Cell, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
“Whether you are protecting your own product or protecting your company from infringing on someone else’s, you must factor precautions into any product or company strategy from the start”, said Mr Sameer.
He added: Some founders do not consider the intangibles of what they are building. It is crucial to ensure differentiation of what your product or service does, how it functions and how it is presented. Those differentiators can make or break your business and must be protected.
Discussing types of intellectual properties, Mr Sameer outlined details of the mechanism to protect them by filling various forms of IPR like patents, design, trade-marks and copyright among others.
He elucidated the procedure for filing online patent applications and also answered queries of the participants.
Inaugurating the online lecture, Prof M M Sufiyan Beg (Principal, Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology-ZHCET, AMU) stressed the need for filing more patents for further improvement in the ranking of AMU.
He also spoke about the top spots AMU continues to maintain in the rankings of different national and international agencies.
Dr S J A Rizvi (Convener, AMU IP Cell) extended the vote of thanks.
Over 80 faculty members, students and researchers attended the programme.
