Lecture on Criminology, Penology and Victimology at the Faculty of Law

Aligarh: The Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a public lecture on Contemporary Challenges to Criminology, Penology and Victimology by Professor Syed Mohammad Afzal Qadri, a renowned scholar and writer of the seminal book on Criminology, Penology and Victimology.

In his lecture Prof Qadri underlined that the ‘criminology is undergoing a social churning under modern criminality and cultural values.’ “Therefore there is an urgent need for paradigmatic shift in penological theories and doctrines”, he said, adding that ‘as a recourse we have to create an edifice of victimology for dispensation of criminal justice’.

Earlier, Professor M.Z.M. Nomani, Dean, Faculty of Law welcomed the speaker and reflected on his scholastic contribution and textual admiration of his book. “It is a matter of pride that students had direct interface with the learned author and speaker on a vital subject and curriculum”, he observed.

On the occasion, Professor Faizan Mustafa reflected upon the contemporary challenges and endorsed the points highlighted by Professor Syed Mohammad Afzal Qadri.

In his presidential remark, Professor Saleem Akhtar, Director Academics of Asian Law College, Noida stressed the role of courts and criminal investigation agencies in translating the basic postulates of criminology, penology and victimology.

Professor Mohd Ashraf extended thanks to the speakers, guests and the students and resolved to organise public lectures on textual themes in regular intervals.
