Lecture on Dr. Swaminathan’s Contributions to India’s Green Revolution
Aligarh : Prof. Qazi Fariduddin, Department of Botany, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) paid tribute to Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, the architect of India’s green revolution, by highlighting his contributions to the cause of sustainable agriculture in the country.
Delivering a lecture, organized by the Department of Botany on Dr. M. S. Swaminathan and his services in the field of agriculture and food security, Prof Fariduddin said, as a catalyst for change and a beacon of hope for farmers, Swaminathan’s name is synonymous with the green revolution and sustainable farming practices in India.
“In his own words, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan believed that empowering farmers and making them the true architects of food security was the best way to eradicate poverty and usher in an era of prosperity”, he added.
Prof. Fariduddin provided insights into Dr. Swaminathan’s journey, particularly his role in the development of semi-dwarf varieties of wheat in India. He elaborated how Dr. Swaminathan also inspired individuals and organizations worldwide, encouraging them to adopt sustainable, eco-friendly, and equitable agricultural practices.
