Lecture on ‘Life of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’
Aligarh : Prof M Shafey Kidwai, Department of Mass Communication, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) discussed how AMU founder, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan foresaw knowledge and education as the prerequisites for bringing in a social change in the post-1857 India.
He was delivering a special lecture on ‘Life of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’ at the STS School.
“Sir Syed Ahmad Khan felt very early that knowledge of science and technology could only take humankind to its highest levels of development and prosperity. He also felt that such knowledge was necessary to catch up with the West in terms of education and economic development”, Prof Shafey emphasised.
He added: “Sir Syed laid the foundation of ‘Aligarh Movement’ and convinced people about the importance of education. He spent a lifetime in making people realise that we can only compete with the western world through advanced knowledge of science and technology”.
Faisal Nafis (Principal, STS School) delivered the welcome address and motivated students to develop a critical approach for analyzing, questioning and interpretation.
