Lecture organized on ‘National Education Policy and Legal Education in India’
ALIGARH : The Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University organised an extra mural lecture on ‘National Education Policy and Legal Education in India’ by Prof. K.M. Baharul Islam, Chairperson, Centre of Excellence in Public Policy and Government Communication, Indian Institute of Mangement, Kashipur and Visiting Professor, London School of Economics, United Kingdom.
Prof. Islam highlighted the implications of NEP 2020 for legal education in India and emphasized that the course curricula must reflect the contemporary socio-cultural contexts.
He said that legal education needs to be competitive globally, adopting best international practices and embracing new technologies for wider access to and timely delivery of justice.
Presiding over the lecture, Prof. Mehrajuddin Meer, an eminent legal academic and former Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir shared discussed the state of legal education in the country in the backdrop of transformation being ushered in by technology in access to court judgments in India and internationally.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Md. Zafar Mahfooz Nomani, the Dean, Faculty of Law reflected on the need for reorienting the legal education to be illuminated with and directed towards national reconstruction through instrumentation of democracy, rule of law and human rights.
Prof. Hashmat Ali Khan, In-charge, Law Society, extended a vote of thanks, while Dr. Mohammad Nasir conducted the programme.
