Legal Awareness camp held at GDC Majalta
UDHAMPUR : As part of the Nationwide two week campaign to promote Legal awareness and outreach launched by Chief Justice of India under the theme “Empowerment of Citizens through Legal Awareness and Outreach”, a mega legal Awareness camp was organized here at Government Degree College Majalta, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Krittika Jyotsna.
During the day long legal awareness camp on Empowerment of citizens, the participants were educated about their legal rights and different schemes launched by the Govt for the benefit of the public.
A galaxy of speakers including students, professors and Public Representatives shared their views. The Line departments had setup stalls displaying different schemes for the awareness of the rural populace. Revenue department, health department, ICDS department, Education department, Social welfare department and agriculture department participated in the camp and provided information about various public welfare schemes related to their respective departments and resolved the problems of the people on the spot.
Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Rafiq Ahmad Jaral, spoke about the functions of National, State, District and Tehsil legal services Authorities and provisions as envisaged in the Legal Services Authorities, Act 1987. He said that the members of SC/ST, victims of trafficking, women/child, mentally ill or disabled persons, victims of mass disaster, ethnic violence, caste atrocity, economically weaker sections etc. are entitled to get legal services in terms of section 12 of the Act.
The awareness of students of different schools and colleges is a must to dispense the benefit of legal rights and schemes among the rural masses, Mr Jaral added. He further said that Justice is the first deliverable to be secured for the citizens as envisaged in the preamble of the constitution, which can only be accomplished by providing the legal aid to the weaker sections of the society.
DDC Councillor, Majalta Amit Sharma, also spoke about the legal facilities being provided by the Govt. Principal Degree College Majalta Prof. Dr. Namrata spoke about the women rights and legal facilities available for redressal of their issues. Tehsildar Majalta Uttam Singh Palsar organized the event.
All Sectoral officers of different departments, Professors, Teachers besides PRI members were also present at the camp.
