London Institute for Healthcare Engineering Debuts UK’s First MedTech Venture Builder Programme
The London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE) has launched its inaugural MedTech Venture Builder programme in a UK-first, funded by Research England.
The MedTech Venture Builder is a collaborative effort between four partner institutions, with King’s College London as the lead and working in partnership with Queen Mary University of London, City University of London, and St George’s University of London, to create a Collaborative Centre of Excellence (CCoE) for Medical Device translation.
The MedTech Venture Builder is a 12-month structured programme that will provide the structures that are critical to building a robust MedTech company. These include regulatory plans, clinical evidence roadmaps and stakeholder mapping, plus extensive hands-on guidance and monthly strategic progress reviews, all within a fit-for-purpose, medical grade, Quality Management System (QMS).
Crucially, a select number of academic founders joining the CCoE will be supported by grant funding to subsidise their time, enabling them to take part in the CCoE’s intensive programme.
I am delighted to launch this MedTech Venture Builder programme and grateful to Research England’s Connecting Capability Fund for their support to develop the next generation of MedTech startups by creating a pathway for university-inspired research from bench to bedside to boardroom.

Medical technology spinouts from any of the four consortium partner institutions in the process of incorporation/registration or recently incorporated in the UK.
Companies at the same stage from across the UK that are not spinouts of the consortium partners.
Applications from Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) companies at the same stage as above are also welcome.
