Loughborough University: Creative Arts graduands awarded in recognition of their final year projects
Recipients of a number of Creative Arts prizes have been selected and named for this academic year.
These prizes identify upcoming talent within the creative arts at the University, and winners receive rewards, including cash prizes and creative resources.
The winners for this year’s Creative Arts prizes are:
Potclays Award: Ellen Smith

Printmakers Council Award: Daniel Opolot
John Mack Materials Award: Leah Widdows (Visual Communications), Pascal Pugh (3D Design), Kate Wootton (Textiles and Fashion), Tobias Poffley (Fine Art)
Yanina Temple Colour Award: Winny Obee (Visual Communications), Alice Turner (3D Design), Hannah Harty (Textiles and Fashion), Lucinda Allan (Fine Art)
Enterprise Awards: Suzi Royds (Graphics), Sophie Daniels (Textiles), Suzanne Collins (Fine Art)
Edward Sharp Prize
This University accolade is awarded to final year Creative Arts students whose work is chosen to be purchased for display on the Loughborough Campus. Jhuma Dutta and Georgie Gerrard are this year’s recipients of the award.
Fine Art finalist Jhuma’s piece, ‘Tapestry of Memories’, is informed by her experiences of loss and how she sees the world of dislocation. Georgie Gerrard’s piece, ‘6 Locations’, adopts a multidisciplinary, experimental approach to textile design with 100% bio-based sculptural vessels.
The judging panel was made up of Professor Cees de Bont, Nick Slater (Director of LU Arts), Lorraine Young and Dr Kerri Akiwowo.
Cees commented: “Jhuma Dutta produced magnificent colourful textiles which tell very personal stories about her cultural background and Georgie produced an amazing series of beautiful mycelium sculptures.”
Nick added: “It is always a pleasure to see the fantastic talent on show and to choose new work for the university collection. The selection was incredibly difficult as the quality and the variety of the work was so impressive and gave us so many options to choose from.”
