Loughborough University: Loughborough continues its pledge to clean sport

Loughborough University has once again pledged its continued commitment to clean sport.

UK Anti-Doping’s (UKAD) Clean Sport Week takes place between 23-27 May 2022 and the University will use this time to continue its on-going education to athletes, coaches, and practitioners on the importance of keeping sport clean and safe.

Teams from the University will work alongside UKAD to deliver workshops through its recently launched Clean Sport Hub. The hub allows easier access and tailored courses for athletes, coaches, parents, support staff and anyone who is interested in protecting clean sport.

A series of events will be held virtually, in person, and shared through Loughborough Sport’s social media channels, highlighting the positive values of clean sport that aligns with the wider Loughborough approach of providing life-shaping sporting experiences on campus.

One such event will be hosted by Dr Liam Heaney, Lecturer in Bioanalytical Science, School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences. The “Clean Sport at University: Opportunities for Education and Research” seminar will take place on Thursday 26 May between 13.00-14.30 in the Edward Herbert Building (EHB) on campus.

Here, UKAD representatives will explain the variety of clean sport education initiatives that are currently available for students, academic staff, and university sport practitioners.

The free event will also address how UKAD is seeking to stimulate future research that addresses key priorities. Due to limits on lecture theatre capacity, those who would like to attend must book a ticket in advance via the following link: cleansportatuniversity.eventbrite.co.uk

For those who can’t make it in-person, delegates are also invited to join online, with registration and live-streaming information also found on the above link.

Dr Heaney and colleagues are actively seeking to understand the extent to which anti-doping knowledge and material is being used for education purposes across both Loughborough and London Campuses.
