Loughborough University: Loughborough trio nominated for prestigious sport management award

The highly prized accolade is awarded to the best original theoretical or conceptual advance and significant unpublished contribution in sport management.

This year, Sungkyung Kim and Xiuqi Zhu – both PhD students at Loughborough’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (SSEHS) – and Dr Eddie Mighten, a teaching fellow at Loughborough University London, are among the forerunners.

Dr Elisavet Manoli, who supervised both PhDs, said: “This is the most prestigious conference in sport management in Europe, if not worldwide. We are proud of all three Loughborough candidates and wish them all luck”.

Sungkyung Kim has now passed his viva and will soon be graduating. His research examines the value of the use of public relations at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Xiuqi Zhu is about to submit her thesis. She looks into eSports events spectators and the service quality of eSports Events.

Dr Eddie Mighten researches authority, authenticity and sincerity within (professional) football leadership.

At the same conference, Barrie Houlihan, an emeritus professor at SSEHS, also received the Chelladurai Award 2022 for his outstanding professional achievements.

He said: “It was an honour to have been selected for the Chelladurai Award- an award that provides further confirmation of the leading international role that Loughborough University plays in sport management research.”
