LPU Student-Shooters won 3-Medals at 62nd National Shooting Championship held in Kerala
Jalandhar: LPU Distance Education MBA student Amanpreet Singh and BA student Gurpreet Singh once again proved their mettle in national shooting competition by winning three medals. During 62nd National Shooting Championship held at Vattiyoorkkavu Shooting Range of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, both of them exhibited their shooting deftness to excel upon competitors. During the event, LPU shooters competed with 162 top national level shooting sports-persons from across the country. This National Championship was organized by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), as per rules and regulations under NRAI Match Book 2018. Prior to this championship, they also have international and national winning record to their credit.
Employed with Indian Army, Gurpreet Singh, who is pursuing Bachelor in Arts from LPU through distance education mode (LPU DE), has won Silver Medal in 25M Centre Fire Pistol event. He also won Team Bronze in 25M Rapid Fire Pistol event by teaming up with two other army-men. Similarly, Amanpreet Singh, who is an ONGC employee and pursuing MBA from LPU DE, has won Silver Medal in 10M Centre Fire Pistol Mixed event by teaming up with a woman shooter Shweta Singh. Congratulating the winners, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal also invoked them to prove their dexterity at ‘Olympics’ also, on getting a chance. Highlighting, LPU provides scholarships to national and international level achievers in various fields so that they can enhance their academic qualifications along with pursuing their passion.
Worth mentioning, already Arjuna Awardee & Olympian, Gurpreet has to his credit international medal from 25 mt standard pistol individual competition (men) at 52nd ISSF World Shooting Championship held in Changwon, South Korea; a silver medal in the senior men’s standard pistol event; and, many other. He represented India in Rio Olympics 2016 and secured 7th place in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event; won gold medals (with games record) in 25m and 10m Rapid Fire Pistol (Pairs) events and Bronze medal in 25m Individual event in 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games; Silver medal in 25m Centre Fire Pistol Men’s Team event during 2014 Asian Games (Incheon); and, numerous other medals and distinguished positions. Amanpreet is also having illustrious achievements in his name.
As per the stated policy, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) will take the final call on selection leading up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. It will be based on the aggregate scores of shooters, in international tournaments and selection trials.
