LSE’s Dr. Rebecca Elliott Honored with 2023 Philip Leverhulme Prize for Outstanding Achievement

Dr Rebecca Elliott from the Department of Sociology has been awarded a prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prize 2023 by the Leverhulme Trust.

The prizes are awarded annually to recognise the achievement of outstanding researchers whose work has already attracted international recognition and whose future career is exceptionally promising.

Each of the 30 prize winners receives £100,000 which can be used to advance their research.

Chosen from over 400 nominations, the Trust offered five prizes in each of the following subject areas: Biological Sciences, History, Law, Mathematics and Statistics, Philosophy and Theology, and Sociology and Social Policy. Dr Elliott has been recognised for her work in the category of Sociology and Social Policy.

Commenting on the award, Dr Elliott said: “I’m deeply honoured to receive this prize. I’m grateful to the Leverhulme Trust for the recognition and for its support of my future research.

“My research generally explores how climate change, as a material and symbolic phenomenon, is reshaping social and environmental landscapes. I plan to use the award to begin a new project about climate loss, conservation and commemoration.”
