Report by Santanu Ganguly; New Delhi: On the eve of centenary year celebration of Late Lalita Shastri, great lady devoted to the upliftmen of poor, downtrodden and weaker section of the society, a programme was held at Nehru Memorial auditorium today.
Devorted wife of Late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was paid great tribute by the Chief Guest of the function Smt. Margaret Alva, Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand. Smt. Alva in her address focused on the dedication and sacrifices made by Smt. Lalita Shastri and said that she will be remembered as a great women of India. To commemorate the occasion Hon’ble Governor released a book “Archana” and devotional CD “Archana” depicting the Bhajans written by Smt. Lalita Shastri and also released another book named “Mere Aaradhya” based on the memorable moments with late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri written by Smt. Lalita Shastri. The Guest of Honor was Smt. Krishna Tirath, Minister for Women & Child Development, Govt. of India who in her speech highlighted the role of Smt. Shastri as a great mother and wife setting a high standard of an Indian women.
Shri Sunil Shastri, President, Lal Bahabur Shastri Seva Niketan welcomed the guests and Anil Shastri proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme attained its height with odissi dance performance by renowned artist Smt. Kavita Dwibedi on the Bhajan written by Smt. Lalita Shastri.
The Devotional album “Archna” contains 8 classical bhajans and all are written by Late Smt. Lalita Shastri. Music of the album was given by C. Ramchand, Sunil Shastri, and Shatish Babbar also. Out of 8 bhajans, two were sung by great Lata Mangeshkar and two by late Mohd. Rafi. Premjit Singh has also given his great voice to two bhajans. The famous gazal singer Satish Babbar and her daughter Vani Babbar Gutti has also sung one-one bhajan.
