Macquarie University Holds Strong Position Among Global Top Universities

Macquarie’s overall score improved across the QS performance measures, reflecting the University’s strengths in research, global engagement and sustainability. The metrics of sustainability, employability and international research collaboration were introduced last year, delivering a boost to Macquarie’s ranking.

Over the past decade, Macquarie has steadily climbed in the QS rankings, moving up more than 100 places since 2014 and entering the top 200 for the first time in 2022.

Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton says the ongoing efforts of academic and professional staff have ensured that the University has sustained its global standing among the world’s highest performing institutions.

“Macquarie University has maintained an upward trajectory and is now being consistently recognised globally for its exceptional quality of research and education, thanks to the vision and determination of our University community,” says Professor Dowton.

“Underpinning this result in the QS World University Rankings is a strong commitment to international engagement, innovation and partnerships in an increasingly dynamic and uncertain world; to our role in improving global sustainability; and to outstanding quality of contemporary education.”

Earlier this year, QS ranked 17 Macquarie University subjects in the top 150 globally, with three subjects ranking in the top 50 worldwide.
