Macquarie University Maintains Global Standing in Subject Rankings
Macquarie is ranked second in Australia and 31st in the world for Linguistics, while Philosophy placed fourth nationally and 35th internationally, and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence was fifth in Australia and 48th worldwide.
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence was introduced into the rankings in 2023, and this year for the first time the top 70 universities worldwide were published.
In addition to these high-performing subjects, Macquarie placed in the top 10 in Australia for 19 subjects, up from 17 in 2023. Rounding out the list were Accounting and Finance, Arts and Humanities, Business and Management, Classics and Ancient History, Communication and Media, Computer Science and Information Systems, Engineering – Petroleum, English Language and Literature, Geography, History, Law and Legal Studies, Modern Languages, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Theology and Religious Studies.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the world’s top universities in five broad and 55 specific subject areas using a combination of research citations, as well as the University’s reputation among academics and employers.
Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor and President Professor S Bruce Dowton says the latest subject rankings reflect Macquarie’s strengths and expertise in a number of academic fields.
“These results reflect Macquarie University’s position as a global leader in higher education, and are testament to our ongoing commitment to excellence in education and research across a wide range of disciplines,” says Professor Dowton.
“Our academics continue to innovate, collaborate and push the boundaries of knowledge. It is especially exciting to see Macquarie excel in future-focused subject areas such as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.”
In 2024, QS ranked Macquarie 130th globally in its annual World University Rankings.
