Madhya Pradesh bags third place in Swachh Sarvekshan-2020

Bhopal : Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Shri Hardeep Singh Puri distributed awards of Swachh Sarvekshan-2020 in Virtual Swachhta Mahotsav. Leaving behind 4242 cities of the counrty, Indore became the Cleanest City of the country for the fourth time in a row. Bhopal besides selected among the Top-10 in the country, chosen as Best Self-Sustainable Capital. Madhya Pradesh has bagged third position in the category of states with more than 100 urban bodies with best performance. It is to be highlighted that Madhya Pradesh has bagged total 10 awards in various categories.

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has congratulated former Mayor of Indore Smt. Malini Gaur, Member of Parliament, MLAs including public representatives, officers as well as employees besides entire team and citizens for this remarkable achievement. He said that cleanliness has become culture of Indore. Cleanliness is Indore’s nature and Indore has driven away the filth. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan further stated that Indore will set new record in terms of cleanliness now by hitting sixer also.

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the former Mayor of Indore Malini Ji including Member of Parliament, Corporators, Collector, Commissioner and entire team deserve compliments for this achievement. It is a matter of great importance to bag highest position among the 4242 cities of the country. Cleanliness is Indore’s nature. Indore has driven away filth. Cleanliness has become culture of Indore. He further said that Indore has bagged highest position in the country for the fourth time in a row, the city will set more records and also hit sixer.

Notable achievement of Madhya Pradesh

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that it is a day of special happiness for Madhya Pradesh too. While Indore has won the Cleanest City award for the fourth time in the country, the selection of Bhopal as the Best Self-Sustainable Capital is a matter of joy. Former Mayor Shri Alok Sharma, Team of Municipal Corporation and all the citizens deserve congratulations. Small cities like Mhow, Shahganj, Kantaphod in Madhya Pradesh have also bagged awards. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan urged people to take a pledge that we will always remain first. Let us change the pattern to achieve first place next year. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Indore has crafted a new niche in the world. Now people will come to Indore to learn the lesson of cleanliness.

Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep Singh Puri while expressing happiness over the selection of Indore as the Cleanest City in the country, congratulated Chief Minister Shri Chouhan during the Swachh Mahotsav virtual award function. Shri Puri said that he had come to Indore with his Japanese friend few years ago to participate in 3R conference. When his friend went to visit the city, he was asked about the purpose of his visit, then he said that he is trying to find dirt in Indore but only cleanliness is visible everywhere. Shri Puri hoped that Madhya Pradesh would uphold its tradition of cleanliness.

 

Referring to the conditions in Corona, Shri Puri said that today this programme has been organized at large scale for the first time due to information and technology. Crores of people in the country participated in the cleanliness survey and related events organized on social media. More than 11 crore people have also registered complaints through Swacchta App. As many as 7 crore people participated on Swacchta platform This was done within a period of 4 weeks. Shri Puri further mentioned that efforts will also be made in 2021 to link artificial intelligence by further developing this technology. Shri Puri informed that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi started the Swachhta Abhiyan on October 2, 2014. Prime Minister said that we will have to connect people of the country with this campaign. Shri Puri stated that today this campaign is only gaining success by the participation of people.

On this occasion, referring to the benefits received under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, financial assistance received for construction of toilets and under other programmes, some sanitation workers and selected beneficiaries also shared their experience with the government. Union Minister Shri Puri also launched Dash Board, on which all information related to Swachhta Mahotsav and Swachhta Mission has been displayed in detail. Secretary of Ministry of Urban Development Shri Durga Shankar Mishra accorded welcome to all the guests present at the virtual event and briefed about the outline of the programme. A short film made on Swachhta Sarvekshan-2020 was screened online on the occasion.

Minister for Urban Development and Housing Shri Bhupendra Singh congratulated public representatives as well as officers and employees of 378 urban bodies. He mentioned that we are committed to implement the Swachhta resolution of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in all the cities of the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Shri Singh further stated that efforts will be made to bring the state at first place in Swachh Sarvekshan-2021.

Bhopal city was ranked 19th last year. Its ranking has improved this year. Now Bhopal is at 7th place. Ujjain has bagged first place under innovation category for ‘Badhai se Safai’ innovation. Highest six cities of Madhya Pradesh have been included in the category of cities with more than One lakh population. Along with this, 14 municipal corporations of Madhya Pradesh have succeeded in attaining place in the Top 25. Burhanpur city was at 103rd place last year. This year it received the fastest growing city award. Jabalpur has received the award for the best city in the country for the positive reactions of the citizens. Ratlam Municipal Corporation has been awarded in the Citizen Feedback category. Sihora Municipality of Jabalpur district has received the award in the category of better utilization of ground water. Shahganj Municipality of Sehore district has secured place in the Top-20 in the category of less than one lakh population. Kataphod Municipality of Dewas district has got the title of fastest growing city in the 25 thousand population category of the Western Zone.

It is to be highlighted that 4242 cities of the country had participated under the Swachh Sarvekshan-2020, which included giving an institutional form to sanitation in cities beyond the cleanliness and availability of civic amenities. The major components of this survey were waste collection, transportation and processing, sustainable sanitation, citizens’ participation and innovation etc. On the basis of total 6000 points under these components, the final results were declared by the Government of India based on the field assessment of authorized independent agency and people’s feedback.

As many as 378 cities of Madhya Pradesh have performed with excellence under the components of Swachh Sarvekshan-2020. Mainly efforts have been made for sanitation in cities, construction of basic infrastructure and their management, management of solid waste and in receiving cooperation of citizens in maintaining cleanliness in cities. As a consequence of these efforts, Madhya Pradesh has received an honour for becoming open defecation free state and 234 cities along with 107 cities of the state became successful in getting ODF+ and ODF ++ status respectively. In this series, 18 civic bodies of the state succeeded in receiving star rating in the evaluation of garbage free city, which is at second position in the country in terms of highest number of cities in the country. It is also to be highlighted that during the last 3 surveys, 20 cities of Madhya Pradesh were among the 100 best cities of the country. In the Swachh Sarvekshan-2020, awards have been conferred to Municipal Corporations of Indore, Jabalpur, Burhanpur, Ratlam and Ujjain, Municipality of Sihora-District Jabalpur, Municipal Corporation-Bhopal, Nagar Parishad of Shahganj-District Sehore, Nagar Parishad of Kantaphod-District Dewas and Mhow Cantonment of district Indore.
