Madhya Pradesh to get 10 awards under Swachh Sarvekshan-2020

Bhopal : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Shri Hardeep S. Puri will distribute awards of Swachh Sarvekshan-2020 through video conferencing on August 20.

Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Minister for Urban Development and Housing Shri Bhupendra Singh and Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing Shri O.P.S. Bhadoriya will also participate in the programme. As per the information received from the Government of India, awards will be conferred to Municipal Corporations of Indore, Jabalpur, Burhanpur, Ratlam and Ujjain, Municipality of Sihora-District Jabalpur, Municipal Corporation-Bhopal, Nagar Parishad of Shahganj-District Sehore, Nagar Parishad of Kantaphod-District Dewas and Chhawni Parishad Mhow Cantonment.

Under the Swachh Sarvekshan, the Municipal Corporation of Indore has been achieving the ‘Cleanest City’ position constantly since the last 3 years. It is expected that this time again, performance of Indore will be the best among the 4242 cities of the country under the Swachh Sarvekshan-2020.

It may be mentioned that 4242 cities of the country participated under the Swachh Sarvekshan-2020, in which chiefly giving institutional form to sanitation beyond cleanliness and availability of public amenities were included. The main components of this survey were waste management, transportation and processing, sustainable cleanliness, participation of citizens and innovations etc. On the basis of total points of 6000 under these components, the final results have been declared based on the field assessment by the independent agency, authorized by the Government of India and people’s feedback.

As many as 378 cities of Madhya Pradesh have performed with excellence in the components of Swachh Sarvekshan-2020. This include sanitation in cities, construction of basic infrastructure and their management, management of solid waste and efforts to receive cooperation of citizens in maintaining cleanliness in cities. As a consequence of these efforts, Madhya Pradesh has received honour for becoming open defecation free state, 234 and 107 cities of the state became successful in getting ODF+ and ODF ++ status respectively. In this series, 18 civic bodies of the state succeeded in receiving star rating in the evaluation of garbage free city, which is at second position in the country in terms of highest number of cities in the country. It is also to be highlighted that during the last 3 surveys also, 20 cities of Madhya Pradesh were among the 100 best cities of the country.
