Malappuram Centre Bhoomitrasena Club inaugurated

 

Aligarh : The Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Kerala sanctioned the Aligarh Muslim University Centre, Malappuram a “ Bhoomitrasena Club” (Friends of Earth) on the occasion of World Wetland Day recently, the club was inaugurated. The objective of the club is to promote environmental awareness and protection activities among the students. Ninety seven students from all the three departments registered their membership in the club.

The Chief Guest on the occasion Dr Suresh Babu GS (Asst. Professor, JNU) inaugurated the programme online and emphasized the necessity of ecological mindfulness of the young generation in Indian classrooms. He exhorted that the academic world through working beyond disciplinary boundaries can contribute much to the sustainability of our earth. The importance of wetlands as a climate enhancer was also discussed.

Dr Faisal KP, the Director of Centre chaired the event. In his presidential address, he discussed various eco-friendly projects at the Centre like Biodiversity Park, teak / tree plantation drive in collaboration with the Social Forestry Division Malappuram, Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department.

Dr Raghul V Rajan (Asst Professor and the Faculty in-charge of the club) delivered the welcome address and discussed the vision and mission of the club.

Zoya Khan delivered the vote of thanks and Mohammed Asif conducted the program. Large number of students and staff members of the Centre participated in the hybrid mode program.
