Mansi Bandral adjudged best Singer; GCW Udhampur hosts devotional song competition

 

UDHAMPUR: To mark the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami, the Department of Music, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized an Inter-College devotional song competition through virtual mode here the other day.

Principal of the college Prof Minu Mahajan was the chief guest on the occasion.

While highlighting the importance of Basant Panchami, the chief guest said that the festival is generally regarded as the beginning of spring and pale yellow flowers come out in the field. Basant Panchami is also a festival that honors Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music and art, she added.

She appreciated the music department for organizing the program and conveyed her greetings to the staff and students. She said that the competition has enabled the students to showcase their talent on a common platform, which will help them to build confidence.

As many as 29 Students from different colleges participated in the devotional song competition.

In the competition, Mansi Bandral of Semester 1st of Government College of Education, Jammu was adjudged best singer; Sulekha Devi and Semester 3rd of GCW Udhampur bagged 2nd position, while third position was shared by Tamanna Devi, Semester 1st from GCW Udhampur and Akshay Kumar Balgotra Semester 3rd from Govt. Degree College(Boys) Udhampur. Bhagya lakshmi Semester 1st of Government College of Education, Jammu and Diksha Sharma Semester 3rd of Government College of Education, Jammu were given consolation prizes.

Earlier, Head of Department Music, Associate Professor, Dr Seema Sharma threw light upon the significance of Basant Panchami. She said that these types of events provide a platform to budding singers and prepare them for future challenges.

The event was coordinated by Assistant Prof. Shallu Jasrotia and Assistant Prof. Yash Kumar of the Department of Music GCW Udhampur.

The Devotional Song Competition was adjudged by the panel of experts in music including Assistant Prof. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Mukteshi Sharma and Anita Sharma.
