Martyr’s day observed at AMU

ALIGARH : The martyr’s day, marking the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi on January 30, 1948, was observed at various schools and departments of the Aligarh Muslim University with great respect.

At the STS School, a two-minute silence was observed and a talk was delivered by a teacher, Nooruzzama Arshad who shed light on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi and discussed the relevance of his philosophy of Satyagrah in the present social and political context.

In his presidential remarks, Principal, Faisal Nafis urged the students to follow the path of non-violence and work for promoting peace, prosperity, and harmony in society.

In Abdullah School, Superintendent, Umra Zaheer discussed the significance of the day, besides taking part in the two-minute silence to pay homage to Mahatma.

Speeches in English, Hindi and Urdu were delivered by students and slogan writing and poster-making activities were also held to mark the martyr’s day.

In fond memory of Mahatma Gandhi, a special assembly was held at the AMU Girls School and a two-minute silence was observed.

In her address, Principal, Amna Malik stressed the need for revisiting the ideas and philosophies of Satyagarah and non-violence propounded by Mahatma Gandhi and urged the students to imbibe the Gandhian values in their lives to become a good citizens.

Aqsa and Vanshikha Chatterjee spoke on the importance of the day and Tayyaba Fatima Mazhar presented Gandhi Ji’s sayings.
