Marwadi University concludes its second National Moot Court Competition
Rajkot : Faculty of Law at Marwadi University (MU), in association with Abhay Bharadwaj and Associates, hosted its 2nd National Moot Court Competition, in remembrance of the illustrious career of advocate, Shri Abhay Bharadwaj. He was part of the 21st Law Commission of India and made contributions to Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 and Uniform Civil Code, as well as being a member of the Rajya Sabha.
For 3 days, questions, rebuttals and sur-rebuttals flew across the moot courtroom as 16 enthusiastic teams competed from across India. Senior members of India’s legal and judicial fraternity comprising, Supreme Court Justice M.R. Shah, Justice Niral R. Mehta Gujarat High Court Judge, Anshin Desai Sr. Advocate Gujarat High Court; Sharad Abhyankar Senior Partner at Khaitan & Co., and Senior Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Mr Tejas Karia, were part of the evaluation panel. The Competition covered a broad spectrum of ethics, justice, integrity, academic excellence, diversity and professionalism.
The team fro, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Dehradun, comprising of Ananya Tripathi, Anshika Agrawal and Vishal emerged winners, taking home a cash prize of INR 40,000 and the coveted trophy. S.S. Jain Subodh Law College, Jaipur, students, Abhay Singh Choudhary, Chintan Choudhary and Piyush Bhardwaj, were declared runners-up, with a cash prize of INR 20,000. Cash prizes were also awarded to Best Speaker (Petitioner), Best Speaker (Respondent), Best Memorial Team and Best Researcher.
The valedictory speech was given by Hon’ble Justice M.R. Shah, who highlighted the importance of mooting for future lawyers, facing the Bench. He said that, “This is my second visit to Marwadi University and the quality of legal education they provide is impressive. I’m also amazed to see the level of participation and competitive spirit of these 1st year students. I congratulate their efforts and intellect.”
President, Marwadi University, Ketanbhai Marwadi added that, “We are honored to host such an illustrious panel and congratulate all the participating teams. Judiciary, Law and legal systems are a fascinating and fulfilling career path. The Moot courts offer a great opportunity to showcase your thoughts, skills and abilities. We are honoured that MU is a part of their journey of discovery.”
The 16 teams that participated from across the country, included teams from prestigious institutions such as Symbiosis Law School, Pune; The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun; The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University; Government Law College, Mumbai; National Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, among other noteworthy institutions.
Rhishikesh Dave, Dean, Faculty of Law, Marwadi University, said that, “Mooting instills essential skills necessary for a successful legal career, including research, legal writing, critical thinking, argumentation, and communicative adroitness. These abilities should be inculcated as early as possible. MU Faculty of Law recognizes the relevance of such activities which foster a cooperative and collaborative zeal among aspiring minds.”
