Maulana Azad Library celebrates foundation day

 

Aligarh: The Maulana Azad Library, Aligarh Muslim University celebrated Foundation Day on 12th November in the online mode. The Chief Guest on the occasion Dr Jamil Ahmad Qureshi, Former Director of Libraries shared his memories associated with Maulana Azad Library “‘ Bachelor of Library Science’ was introduced by Aligarh Muslim University in 1958-59 with full-time Lecturers for the first time in the country.”. He also highlighted the role of libraries as learning resources centres and the importance of professional development activities, user education programmes, a roadmap for library building and weeding out policies.

Dr Gayas Makhdumi, Former Librarian, Jamia Millia Islamia recalled his student life at AMU and said:”Maulana Azad Library has a huge repository of knowledge and a place full of academic enthusiasm”.

Dr Yogendra Kumar, Librarian, Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun stressed the importance of research data libraries, institutional repository, copyright issues and user education. He said that the library services should be user-centric and be based on feedback from users.

Earlier Prof Nishat Fatima, Officiating Librarian in her welcome address gave a brief about the resources, services and facilities provided by the Maulana Azad Library and applauded the contribution of the former librarians to the development of the library.

Dr Monawwer Eqbal, Deputy Librarian conducted the proceedings and Dr Habibur Rahman Khan, Deputy Librarian extended the vote of thanks.

Over 100 students, faculty members and staff from different parts of the country and abroad attended the programme.
