MCX IPF releases “The Commodity Insights Yearbook 2023”

Mumbai : MCX Investor Protection Fund (MCX IPF) released ‘The Commodity Insights Yearbook 2023’ at a special event as a part of the ongoing World Investor Week 2023, held in Mumbai on the 12th of October 2023. The yearbook is an annual publication of the MCX IPF offering valuable insights, research, in-depth analysis, and data on the Indian commodities markets. This year’s edition is in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore with a special focus on Agricultural Commodities as a segment.

 

This momentous occasion also marked the unveiling of the findings from two research studies conducted by the esteemed IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Jammu in the event, which was organized in association with ANMI. These research studies, undertaken for MCX, underscores the Exchange’s unwavering commitment to foster knowledge and excellence within the commodities trading sector.

 

The study carried out by IIM Ahmedabad, titled ‘Suspension of Commodity Derivative Contracts and Impact on Price Discovery’, delves into the critical issue of suspension of trading in commodity derivative contracts with a data-driven analysis of the impact on various market participants, and the efficiency of price discovery mechanisms. The findings and recommendations from this study offer invaluable insights for policymakers and market stakeholders.

 

The second research study titled ‘Facilitating Institutional Participation in India’s Commodity Derivatives Market’, carried out by IIM Jammu, explores the challenges faced by institutional investors in India’s Commodity Derivatives Market. The study identifies reasons behind low level institutional participation and presents strategies to enhance their engagement. The insights gleaned from this study can help support various initiatives taken to improve participation from financial institutions in India’s commodities market.
