Media plays constructive role in delivering good governance, need to uphold its sanctity: DC Baramulla

Baramulla: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Mohammad Aijaz Asad today said that the media has a very positive and constructive role in delivering good governance by projecting and highlighting various public issues appropriately. He said that journalism is a noble profession and there is a need to maintain its sanctity and uphold its objectivity.

The DC made these remarks while chairing an interactive session with the media fraternity that was convened here to evoke feedback and suggestions from different stakeholders associated with the fraternity.

At the outset, District Information Officer (DIO) Baramulla, Mudassir Hussain presented the valedictory address and gave a brief appraisal about the functioning and other related aspects.

On the occasion, the representative of the press forum briefed the DC about the difficulties they are facing while covering events at ground level. They also put forth their demands including establishment of a Press Club at district headquarter, accreditation of local journalists, streamlining of media functioning.

Moreover, the media persons demanded the upgradation of basic infrastructure in the Information department for their convenience.

DC gave a patient hearing to all of their demands and assured that their genuine demands shall be redressed on priority. He directed the DIO to maintain a close liaison with the journalists besides termed them as a bridge between the administration and the people at large.

Complimenting the media persons for expressing their positive gesture, DC added that maintaining the freedom of press is essentially important and urged upon them to strive for improving the standard of journalism by reporting objectively. He also said that the media is a significant pillar in democracy for deliverance of transparent and accountable governance to the people.
