Medical officers trained in facility-based SAM management
Aligarh: Medical officers of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), Aligarh District were provided with the hands-on-training to strengthen their capacity for facility-based management of Severe Anaemic Malnutrition (SAM) in a special programme conducted in collaboration of the District Early Intervention Centre and Centre of Excellence (DEIC-COE) and the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre, J N Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui (Principal, JNMC) inaugurated the programme.
Speaking on the works of the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre at JNMC, Prof Syed Manazir Ali (Coordinator, NRC) sensitised the participants on the diagnosis and management of children with SAM at facility and community levels.
“The medical officers were also shown the demonstration of anthropometry, feeding techniques and management of SAM chart during the training programme,” said Prof Kamran Afzal (Chairperson, Department of Paediatrics and Convener, DEIC-COE).
Dr UzmaFirdaus (Nodal Officer, DEIC-COE) pointed out that the training focussed on reducing the mortality and morbidity resulting from mismanagement of SAM.
Dr Anjali Rani spoke on the management of SAM patients at the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre, JNMC and conducted the Feeding Demonstration.
Prof Shahid Ali Siddiqui and Dr S P Singh (ACMO, Aligarh district) attended the programme as specially invited guests.
Prof Syed Manazir Ali extended the vote of thanks.
