Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) Funded Research Level Laboratories at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)
Bengaluru: In the rapid rising of interest in consumer safety and public health, there is a dire need for testing food products to ensure its compliance with safety standards for production, effective by-product utilization, monitoring adulteration as well as for exports. Therefore, food analysis laboratories are required to support the surveillance system of food regulators.
Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) has come up with the scheme where Central/ State Government organizations/ Government universities (including Deemed Universities) and all other implementing agencies are made eligible to receive financial assistance for setting up of food testing laboratories. The Department of Food Technology of the Faculty of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Faculty of Engineering & Technology (JU-FET) is one of those privileged institutions to receive the funding.
They have set up various individual research labs within the department to support the R&D of various food products and quality assurance like:
Grain Processing and Baking Technology Lab
Fruits & Vegetables Technology Lab
Dairy Technology Lab
Food analytical Lab
Microbiology Lab
From grain processing and baking for doing research on various food product development and optimizing the process to doing chemical and microbiological analysis for quality assurance, JU-FET has it all. The production labs have an entire chain of equipment that allows pilot processing of the products within the campus premises. The department provides R&D facilities through industrial and university collaborations, internships, and workshops besides continuing with student academics research. World-class infrastructure, financial support by various agencies, scholarship opportunities by the universities make the Food Technology Department of JU-FET quite ahead in the race. Expertise faculties from diverse research backgrounds of food technology of esteemed institutions of India like TANUVAS, NDRI, TNAU, and VTU are always devoted to develop the skills of the students in the labs and continuously motivate them to explore their wings in the field of research.
