Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment Launches National Portal FOR Transgender Persons
New Delhi: Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has e-launched the National Portal for Transgender persons which was attended by several members of Transgender community. A detailed presentation and a short film on the Portal was also made at the Inauguration. National Council for Transgender Persons of which Transgender persons from different parts of the country are members have also witnessed the launch. Awareness about National Portal was also done in social media as well as in different forums attended by Transgender persons and others. Ministry has also written to all States/UTs and District Magistrates/Collectors to publicize National Portal for Transgender Persons.
So far, 1915 Transgender Persons have applied for Certificate of Identity and Identity Cards. Out of 1695 valid applications, 277 Certificates of identity and Identity Cards have been issued. 220 applications have been rejected due to insufficient/invalid documents or being Duplicate applications.
National Portal for Transgender Persons which provides for the procedure for identification certificates issued by the District Magistrate has been established and is functional in all districts of the country.
As per the Census 2011, there are 4,87,803 persons under the category called ‘Other’ .
